Becoming a Registered Nurse

First, let me say that becoming a registered nurse is definitely a long rigorous journey, however, the destination is worth the wait and the fight. If you are smart, you started in high school taking some of the prerequisites. I did not; instead, I pursued a career as a Medical Assistant, of which I have no regrets (I learned a lot, experienced a lot, and the healthcare foundation that I've obtained definitely helped during the RN program). When I was looking to become an RN, there was barely any information online about it, which is one reason why I didn't pursue it early on. That is really why I decided to document my journey, so that other students could have an outlook on what to expect. I started taking my prerequisites in Fall 2011, it took me about 1 year to be contacted for admission into the program after submitting my application in Fall 2013....

Becoming a Medical Assistant

Often over looked and/or under acknowledged (and I have yet to understand why), Medical Assistants are the foundation that holds a medical practice together and keep it from falling apart. Without them how would doctors function in a clinic setting? No, really! Ask any doctor.

 

If you are on the path to becoming a Medical Assistant please consider the information below as it will give you insight on what to expect on your journey. I have been an MA for 10+ years (I graduated in 2007) and I got to experience a lot, probably not as much as an MA in a Primary Care setting but the job is pretty much the same, it is the amount of responsibility that changes, depending on the kind of practice that you decide to work in (primary, specialty, etc.). Throughout the years there has been a division made amongst Medical Assistants, we have been classified into 2 roles....
